Key Cox Media Markets Climb in Nielsen DMA Rankings

The local market Nielsen universe estimates are updated and released annually. The DMA rankings for the 2005-06 TV season have just been released and several key Cox markets have benefited from a growth in TV homes:

PHOENIX surpassed Minneapolis to become the #14 TV market in the U.S.  Additionally, only 40,000 households now separate Phoenix and Seattle (#13)

LAS VEGAS vaulted up three notches and into the top 50, landing at DMA rank #48

Other Cox DMAs that traded up to a higher rank this year: Mobile-Pensacola (#62), Tucson (#71), Omaha (#75), Waco-Temple-Bryan (#94), Fort Smith

Nielsen LPMs Uncover More 18-34 Viewing

Nielsen Media Research is reporting that its controversial local-people-meter (LPM) system has found startling changes in TV viewership over the last year among 18- to 34-year-olds.

The company said data from the six local markets with LPMs show dramatic increases in the number of viewers 18-34 in July 2005 vs. July 2004. The increase occurred in all the markets and in most day parts. The meters track viewership of local broadcast and cable stations.

As high as 83%
